Outdoor Classroom Day
This year as an ECC Team we decided to participate in Outdoor Classroom Day. We signed up at https://outdoorclassroomday.com. This initiative supports outdoor learning and reminded us that spending time outdoors helps us to develop critical life-skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, and creativity. More than 18,000 schools and 1,700,000 children from everywhere around the world signed up. We decided we would try for the first time this year to take part in Outdoor Classroom Day and to spend as much time outside on Thursday as we could. We were not sure that the weather would allow us to do much, and didn’t know how the children would respond. Well, it was great news on both sides: the weather was just perfect, and the children enthusiastic. We set up a mix of activities such as painting stones, a reading corner, a bike track, and of course self-selected play. The children seemed to naturally find a balance between what we had organised and what they chose to do, alternating active play with calmer tasks. Slug and snail watching was a favourite! By the end of the day, we all felt tired, smarter, inspired and proud!
