Can you draw a reasonably lifelike face?
It is hard. Especially making them look ‘real’.
It is even harder to teach someone how to draw a face, while maintaining their creativity. To show that that they are not ‘doing wrong’, but rather, learning how to place features and to draw them in proportion with the rest of the face. Grade 6 started this unit with a game. Dividing the page in two, the students drew their own ideas on one side of the page and my directed features lesson on the other. Eyes are hard to place and children often think that they are much higher in the face than they really are! So we moved through the creation of all the features moving on to create texture and tone, with pencils.
